Thirty minutes later, Sylvia stood outside the apartment she had once believed was Hughâs. Before she could knock, the door swung open. Hugh was clad in only black boxer shorts and a big grin. Well, well. Wasnât he the eager beaver with the promise of sex?
Holding back an acerbic laugh, she said, âHey, handsome.â
âHey, yourself. Iâm glad you called me.â He frowned. âHowâd you get my office number, by the way?â
She let her eyes go wide. âYou mustâve given it to me at some point. It was in my contacts.â
âOh, right.â
Before he could ask anything else, she dropped her purse to the floor and unzipped her dress, letting it fall to the ground. Stepping over it, she took his hand and led him to the bedroom, knowing he would be panting over the sight of her in high heels and black lingerie. She didnât own anything red, nor was there a darling shop near her work. The closest thing to a shop near her office was Target.
Once inside the bedroom, she eased her hands under the elastic band of his boxers and stroked him. He reciprocated, though she felt nothing. Well, maybe a hint of disgust, but she had a job to do. Pushing him onto the bed, she peppered kisses down his chest while he worked his fingers on her.
With a couple of well-timed moans and a yelp of pleasure, she had him just where she wanted him. âCondom,â she whispered, reaching for the one sheâd stashed on the nightstand moments ago. She tore it open before sliding it onto him.
He plowed into her, pumping furiously while she stared at the ceiling and uttered fake purrs of pleasure. With any luck, it wouldnât take long. Ticktock, ticktock. She arched her back and groaned. That earned her a hearty grunt from Hugh. She knew the end was near, and he moved faster before slumping onto her, panting like a dog. Finally.
âGood thing you wore a condom,â she murmured in his ear. âYou wouldnât want me to get pregnant, would you, Hugh? Two babies would be one too many.â She grazed her teeth across his tender earlobe before adding, âYour wife would hate that.â
As though heâd been poked with a hot cattle prod, he sprang from her and slammed his back to the headboard. âWhat the fuck, Sylvia! I donât have a baby! What are you saying?â
She sighed heavily and eased toward him, gently dragging her nails along his arm. âBut you do. And maybe a second on the way. The condoms weâve been using are long expired.â Her voice was a throaty whisper. Pressing a hand to his shoulder, she leaned close to his ear. âThere couldâve been holes in them. But donât worry.â She pinned him with her gaze. âWeâll know if they worked or if they failed very soon. Iâm already five days late.â
He rolled off the bed and landed on his feet as though he were a ninja escaping the bad guy, though he was far less graceful.
